How to block YouTube on a PlayStation
PS5 controls apps by age rating, not by a YouTube deny list. Set up the child account, test the rating rule, and use a router block if it stays open.

PS5 does not have a YouTube deny list
PlayStation parental controls can limit games and apps by age rating. They do not give a parent a simple list where YouTube alone can be denied.
Start with a child PlayStation account and the local app rating. If that rule also blocks needed games, or YouTube stays open at the child's allowed rating, use a router or DNS block aimed at the PS5.
Set the child account's app age level
Create a PlayStation family and add the child before changing the console rule. Do not let the child use the family manager's adult account.
- 1
On PS5, open Settings, then Family and Parental Controls, then Family Management.
- 2
Select the child, then Parental Controls. Open Age Level for PS5 Games and Apps.
- 3
Set a level below the YouTube app rating shown in your PlayStation Store region. Ratings vary by country.
- 4
Sign in as the child and open YouTube. Do not approve an exception if the console offers one.
- 5
Test the games the child still needs. Raise the level only if you accept that it may also open YouTube.
Sony lists Age Level for Games and Apps in its PS5 parental control guide. The PlayStation Family app can manage the same child settings from a phone.
Deleting YouTube from Settings, Storage, Console Storage, Games and Apps removes the current copy. It is not a lasting named app block if the child's rating still allows a free download.
Use a router or DNS block for YouTube only
This route leaves the PlayStation age level alone and blocks YouTube for the console as a network device.
- 1
Open the home router app or admin page. Find the PS5 in its device list and reserve its address if that option exists.
- 2
Apply a YouTube service block to the PS5. If the router uses domain rules, start with
youtube.com,youtu.be,youtube-nocookie.com, andgooglevideo.com. - 3
Restart the PS5. Test the app, search, and a video link opened from another console screen.
If the router cannot target one device, the rule may also block YouTube on
phones and computers at home. Blocking googlevideo.com can stop embedded
YouTube playback in other apps.
Keep YouTube with a supervised account
Google supports supervised child accounts in the YouTube app on PlayStation. A linked parent can now block named channels. Family Center can also set the daily Shorts feed limit to zero.
This is a content filter, not a PS5 app lock. It holds only when the child uses the supervised YouTube account. An adult or guest session stays separate.
Vidward does not run on PS5 or PS4. It is a desktop browser extension plus a parent dashboard, not a console app or network filter.
If your child also uses YouTube on a computer, Vidward can set rules in that desktop Chrome profile. Read how to block YouTube in Chrome.
