How to block YouTube on eero

eero gives you a site block and a schedule

eero can block domains for the whole network or one Profile. Block & Allow Sites needs eero Plus.

All eero users can create Profiles and schedule internet pauses. Use that free schedule when the goal is no YouTube after a set time and you can accept all internet stopping for the assigned devices.

Neither choice filters one YouTube channel. The site block also inherits the usual DNS limits because YouTube uses more than one domain.

Create a Profile for the child

   Open the eero app and create a Profile for the child.

   Assign every computer, phone, tablet, TV, and console the child uses on the eero network.

   Check the profile after each device reconnects. Make sure a device has not returned with a new private address outside the profile.

eero's current Profiles guide says Profiles and scheduled pauses are available to all users. eero Plus adds site, app, and content controls.

Block the YouTube app first, then the domains

eero Plus lists YouTube as a named app under App Blocking, and that is the better first move. A named app block follows the service rather than a domain list you have to keep current, so it catches paths a domain rule can miss.

   On the eero app Home tab, open the child's Profile, select Content Filters or App Blocking, and switch off YouTube where it is listed by name. If your plan or app version does not show it, use the domain steps below.

Add the domain rules underneath it as a second net, since a child can still reach youtube.com in a browser.

   On the eero app Home tab, open the child's Profile and select Block & Allow Sites.

   Select Add Blocked Site. Add youtube.com, youtu.be, and youtube-nocookie.com as domains without https:// or a page path.

   Save the rule. Restart one assigned device and test the site, app, direct links, and embedded videos.

   Add googlevideo.com only if you accept that YouTube video players on other sites may stop too.

eero documents the exact app path in Block & Allow Sites. eero also warns that popular sites use several domains, so one entry may not block the whole service.

Do not add broad Google hosts to chase every request. That can break thumbnails, YouTube sign in, Google account handoffs, and unrelated Google tools.

Use a scheduled pause for a time rule

Open the child's Profile and create a scheduled pause for the nights and hours you choose. This stops internet access for all assigned devices during that window. It does not rely on matching YouTube domains.

Test the pause after a video has started. Buffered video may play for a short time after the network stops. Also test the end time so school and work tools return when expected.

A phone can use cellular data or a hotspot outside eero. A VPN or encrypted DNS may avoid a domain block, but it cannot restore normal internet through an eero profile that is paused.

Keep YouTube with narrower controls

Google now lets a linked parent block an exact channel for a supervised child account. Family Center can also set the daily Shorts feed limit to zero.
